KY Attorney General Says Nortonville City Council Broke Open Meetings Law
HOPKINS CO, KY - The attorney general's office says the Nortonville City Council broke the law during an August 4th session that was not open to the public. The attorney general issued a statement that says Nortonville had no valid exceptions to the law in calling the closed session.
Fatal Traffic Deaths In Illinois On The Decline
ILLINOIS - State troopers say as of Friday, there were 681 traffic fatalities this year, which is 172 fewer than at the same time last year. Authorities say there were 1,248 traffic deaths in Illinois last year, the lowest number since 1924 when there were far fewer cars on the road.
Work Moves Forward On First Stretch Of I-69 Extension
EVANSVILLE - Workers from the Indiana Department of Transportation are making progress on earth-moving work for the shortest stretch of the I-69 project. The project engineer says about a third of the work for the one-and-three-quarters-mile section is done.
Mayor Talks To NEWS 25 About Aztar Sale
EVANSVILLE - NEWS 25 is tracking developments in the sale of Casino Aztar to Eldorado Resorts. We told you earlier this week about Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel's letter to the Indiana Gaming Commission, urging the commission to move quickly in this switch over. He says not doing so could encourage Tropicana Resorts to delay bankruptcy proceedings, interfering with the sale.
Grave Concerns at Sunnyside Cemetery
OHIO COUNTY - Hundreds of flowers ripped from a Tri-State cemetery. We learn the city of Beaver Dam is behind it and questions local leaders about their rules. It was supposed to be a routine clean-up, but left many people angry. City officials tell us they plan on changing their ordinance after we learn hundreds of flowers were removed from grave sites by city workers.
Thin Gas Lines Pose Fire Threat
FISHERS, IN - A report says improperly installed ultra-thin gas lines have left thousands of central Indiana homes in danger of fuel-fed fires if struck by lightning. State officials have known for at least three years that corrugated stainless steel tubing is more likely -- if not grounded properly -- to be breached by lightning than iron pipes.

EVANSVILLE - Police arrest two people after an undercover officer buys oxycodone from them. Evansville police charged Milas Fitzgerald and Angela Beard with narcotics dealing.
New Leadership For Children´s Museum

Town of Elberfeld Under Boil Order

A boil order means any water used for drinking or cooking needs to be boiled for at least five minutes first. Evansville Man Arrested For Trust Fund Theft
PETERSBURG, IN - Indiana State Police say 37-year-old Jared Church of Evansville stole 245,000 dollars from a trust fund set-up for college scholarships. Troopers say Church was responsible for distributing money from the Judge Lester Nixon trust fund. The fund is named after a former Pike County circuit court judge who was once mayor of Petersburg.
McLean County Murder Mystery
MCLEAN COUNTY -NEWS 25 is following the murder of a McLean County man. Saturday, we learn his name and how police say he was killed. Police are keeping quiet about the details, but we learn the victim's burnt out jeep could hold the answer to Keith Calhoun's murder. KSP says 33 year-old Keith Calhoun was shot in the head.
Gustav Evacuees Flying Home
LOUISVILLE, KY - The nearly 1,500 Gulf Coast residents that escaped the path of Hurricane Gustav by taking shelter in Louisville are finally heading home. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be chartering flights to take the evacuees home.

Sturgis Boil Advisory Lifted
STURGIS, KY - A boil advisory for the entire city of Sturgis, Kentucky has been lifted. Officials say as of noon today, the water is safe to drink. A water main break, earlier this week, prompted the boil order. But, we are told the issue has been fixed.

3 Hurt In IU Assault
UPDATE Sunday 3:35pm BLOOMINGTON, IN - Indiana University police are searching for a man who attacked three students with a sharp-edged weapon this morning on campus. One student, an 18-year-old, received a 4-inch cut across his throat, but we learn his injuries aren't life threatening. IU released a composite drawing of the attacker.

 EVANSVILLE - Police are on the trail searching for a man they say could possibly be responsible for two recent robberies. Evansville Police took a person of interest into custody Friday afternoon. NEWS 25 learns that person is still being questioned late into Friday evening.

At Least Two Injured In Accident On US 41
UPDATE 11:50am EVANSVILLE - NEWS 25 learns at least two people were injured on US 41 in a two vehicle accident. Our crew on the scene saw two people being put into ambulances after a white car and a van crashed on US 41 in front of the Whirlpool plant. The crash caused the van to overturn on the highway. No word yet on how severe the injures are, or how the accident happened.
Kimball International To Sell 27,000 Acres Of Land
JASPER, IN - The President and CEO of Kimball International Inc. says the land is no longer needed for the company's manufacturing operations. The tracts include nearly 12,000 acres near Sturgis and some 10,000 acres scattered in southern Indiana between Bedford and the Ohio River.
EPA Sets New Emissions Guidelines For Lawnmowers
WASHINGTON D.C. - The regulations issued Friday call for a 35% emissions reduction from new gasoline-powered lawn & garden equipment beginning in 2011. The EPA says about 190 million gallons of gas will be saved each year. Officials estimate the changes will cost about $236 million a year.
Over $7,500 Worth Of Items Stolen From Dubois County Rail Yard
DUBOIS CO, IN - Indiana State Police say an unknown person or persons broke into the rail yard on August 31st, between 9:30 PM and 10:30 PM. They say two Motorola & four Kenwood portable two-way radios and three switch keys were taken. ISP says the items look similar to the ones pictured here.
KSP Investigating Possible Homicide In McLean County
 MCLEAN CO, KY - KSP says the McLean County Sheriffs Department found a burned out vehicle in a field early Thursday evening. According to police, the body of a white male was found a short time later off the road on KY 796. Police don't have a positive identification of the body as of early Friday morning, but an autopsy is scheduled for later today.

UNION CO, KY - The Sturgis Fire Chief tells us a water main broke overnight between the water plant and the city, forcing Sturgis leaders to issue the advisory. The advisory covers the entire city of Sturgis until further notice.
Owensboro Man Sentenced For Sending Sexual Messages To Teen
OWENSBORO, KY - An Owensboro man has been sentenced to two years in prison for trying to entice kids for sex over the internet. Court records show William Kenneth Clark, 49, was convicted in July for sending explicit messages to a 15-year-old girl on Myspace.

Spencer County Man Charged with Murder
 UPDATE 3:44pm SPENCER CO., IN - NEWS 25 has details about the man suspected in the murder of Sheila Denson, 42, appearing in court for the first time Friday morning. Spencer County Court Records show that Lonney Schroeder, 41, of Spencer County, was denied bond this morning in court. His next appearance is scheduled for October 9th. McLean County EMA Searching for Beech Grove Man
McLEAN CO., KY - Emergency officials in McLean County told NEWS 25 they're looking for a man from Beech Grove, who went missing around 8:00pm Tuesday. A news release from McLean County Emergency Management said they're trying to find Keith Calhoun, 33. He is described as 5'7", short brown hair and a stubbly beard. He was last seen wearing jeans and a white t-shirt.
Muhlenberg County Man Charged with Neighbor´s Murder
MUHLENBERG CO., KY - Kentucky State Police told NEWS 25 William L. Cessna, 39, of Powderly, KY, is now in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center, after police say he killed Kline E Watkins, 47, also of Powderly. Around 1:30am Thursday, KSP received a call about a dead man at 957 Hillside Road in Powderly. Upon arrival, they found Watkins had been shot.
Body Found In Spencer County Field Identified, ISP Opens Murder Investigation
UPDATED: 1:57pm SPENCER CO, IN - NEWS 25 has learned officials have identified the body of a woman found in a Spencer County field. The Spencer County Coroner has identified the body as Sheila Renee Denson, 42, of Philpot, KY. Indiana State Police say she was murdered, but will not say how, due to the "sensitive nature of the investigation". ISP reports they are working with several other agencies on both sides of the Ohio River following leads. Investigators are not commenting on any possible suspects.

Louisville Teen Steals School Bus, Crashes Into Church
LOUISVILLE - School officials say a 13-year-old boy got off of his bus after a fight with other students, and went to an empty bus. They say the teen pushed the driver away, got behind the wheel and drove off. Authorities say the boy drove off and hit a church. No one was injured.
Hurricane Ike Strengthens, Tropical Storm Hannah Eyes US Coast
MIAMI - The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Ike has strengthened to a dangerous Category 4 storm in the Atlantic Ocean, but is still too far out to predict where or if it will make landfall. The hurricane is following behind Tropical Storm Hanna, which could strike the southeastern coast of the U.S. by the weekend.
Gibson County Sheriff Could Receive Pay Cut
GIBSON CO, IN - Sheriff Allen Harmon made about $160,000 this year, but he says some county councilmen think that is too much. Councilmen say Harmon should make a set amount of money each year. Harmon says he's in support of the idea, but wants councilmen to focus on more important issues.

Suspect Charged With The Murder Of Man Found Dead In Motel Room
OWENSBORO, KY - NEWS 25 reported a few weeks ago that Owensboro Police arrested Dennis Shreve, 46, of Dundee in Ohio County in connection with the case. He was initially charged with tampering with physical evidence, but on Wednesday OPD charged him with the murder of 21-year-old Dustin Condor.

 PIKE CO. - New details have emerged surrounding Mark Deputy, the late Head Football Coach of Pike Central High School. Deputy tragically took his own life Tuesday, on the same day former Pike Central Assistant Football Coach, Luke Musselwhite was arrested for sending inappropriate text messages to a 17-year-old female student. NEWS 25 learns Deputy was under investigation for allegedly sending text messages of sexual nature to a female student.
Meter Police Cars Back without Doors
 EVANSVILLE - Evansville meter police began making claims of carbon monoxide gas in the cabs of their Kawasaki Mules when the city put doors on the cabs last November. Now, Evansville's meter police have their wheels back, and if you break a parking law, you're much more likely to get a ticket. But while the four Kawasaki Mules may be back on the streets after being parked last November, NEWS 25 learned no safety improvements were made.

Owensboro Police Arrest Man For Afternoon Car Fire
OWENSBORO, KY - The Owensboro Police Department tells NEWS 25 Lakisha Barrett had parked her car outside of a house she was visiting. They say a passer-by reported that the car was fire around 2:40 PM. After some investigation, OPD believes Damien Desembly, 23, started the fire after an early argument with Barrett.
